Having a family member in the hospital can be a scary experience. Yet, when you encounter a nurse that exudes a sense of trust, professionalism, empathy, and compassion that sense of overwhelmingness quickly deteriorates. A wife wrote this DAISY nomination on behalf of the care this nurse gave her husband. She says this nurse consistently went above and beyond to provide the best care possible and had “exemplary nursing skills.” The wife explained how this nurse realized the monitor was not giving correct readings and worked to have it fixed, saving her husband from having unnecessary blood pressure meds. She also took the time to do teaching about a procedure the patient was having that day –helping both the patient and the wife understand more about the procedure. After the procedure, the patient needed a higher level of care and was transferred to the ICU. This nurse went out of her way, after her 12-hour shift, to go to the ICU and check on her patient and his family. Although she knew they were in the best hands she just wanted to ensure they felt secure in every need. Thank you, Kelsey Zhu, for taking such excellent care of this patient and his wife.
