Kendra truly made an impact on our family, and even now, weeks later, she is still talked about by our family with such love for the dignity she allowed my grandpa to leave this Earth with.
Kendra went above and beyond to care for my grandpa. We were on the unit two different stays, and both times, she was incredible, and we even looked forward to seeing her. During his first stay, he was very weak and unable to make it to the restroom every time. Kendra spent almost all day in his room, cleaning him, cleaning the floor, and reassuring him that it was no big deal. The whole time she had a smile on her face, was laughing, and made him feel comfortable and not ashamed. Unfortunately, when we came back to the hospital, it was for end-of-life care. He was uncomfortable, in pain, and struggling to breathe. It was such a dark time for our family, yet during that, Kendra continued to be a light in the darkness. My grandma constantly was asking when Kendra would be working and if she could be his nurse. When Grandma would see her in the hallway, she would go give her a hug and spend time talking with her. Even though she wasn’t his nurse that day, she still took the time to talk to Grandma and comfort her, and make sure she knew that she was there if she needed anything at all. Kendra truly made an impact on our family, and even now, weeks later, she is still talked about by our family with such love for the dignity she allowed my grandpa to leave this Earth with. She made sure he was comfortable, loved, and spent some of his last days awake with a smile on his face. We can never say thank you enough.
