It was our second night on the unit, and we had a big day including visits with many doctors, circumcision, and vaccines. We were all overstimulated and exhausted. I was struggling with breastfeeding and my hormones were going haywire. By the time 2 AM had rolled around, I had hit a wall and was sobbing uncontrollably as I was just exhausted. I called Kiki and she immediately heard the exhaustion in my voice. She quietly entered the room and with grace and kindness, helped me to calm down and realize I was doing everything "right" and ultimately just needed rest. Her kindness and the way she built rapport and trust were refreshing. She took our sweet boy in order to work on his labs and to allow my husband and me to calm down and sleep.
While I know she will say "it's her job", she left an impression on me in a very emotional and vulnerable moment. I wanted to formally thank Kiki for her love, kindness, intuition, and sweet nature. I know that being a nurse in this unprecedented time is stressful, anxiety-provoking, and at times scary, but we want you all to know how needed you are.

Thank you, Kiki, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
