This is my truth not my story. One day at 8:30 a.m., I found myself choking on my breakfast. I was very afraid because I was in the outpatient laboratory all by myself. The only thing I could quickly think to do was to go out and pray that someone was outside in one of the rooms. Thankfully, that prayer was answered. Kim Zilis was in the same day surgery room and she immediately noticed that I was choking. She started the Heimlich Maneuver and she didn't stop until the food was dislodged. This may seem mediocre to some and even an act of duty for others. But to the person who felt herself losing consciousness, to the person who could have been in that area alone, and without help, to the person who could have died- Kim is a hero! She took care of me. She showed genuine compassion. She saved my life. And for that, I will forever be grateful. Thank you, Kim!
