I have worked with Kim Leach for the past seven years, in my role as a staff RN. Kim has built on her 10 years profession, starting as a Personal Care Technician and transitioning to a Telemetry Technician. She has become an extraordinary nurse over the past five years. Kim is a highly experienced Cardiology Nurse who demonstrates safe and skilled patient care. Kim's teamwork is second to none, she has awareness of all patients on the floor. In an emergent situation, Kim is always first to respond and assist.
There are many examples of Kim's daily excellence. Kim was caring for a patient with a prolonged stay and altered mental status and was having a difficult time sleeping at night. Kim began bringing him out of his room each night to talk and spend time with staff. After a week, he was no longer lonely or scared. Speaking with him and changing his environment, you could see his behavior also change. She even threw him a birthday party and decorated his room. All said and done, he was able to go back to his room and sleep well the remainder of his stay.
Another example of her compassion was an ill patient decided to get married during his length of stay. With some quick thinking and a lot of creativity, Kim was able to morph his room fit for a wedding.
Most recently, Kim has been a champion for a long-term patient. This patient has had a complicated course, along with a barrier to speak. Kim has built a trusting, therapeutic relationship with this patient and is requested by her daily. You can see the comfort and the smile that Kim brings out through the patient's expression.
