I had a total knee replacement. I was very apprehensive and quite honestly terrified of what I was about to go through. Although all the medical staff was outstanding, one nurse clearly stood out among the caregivers. I was in a procedure room undergoing a nerve block when Nurse Kirsten Johnson came in and said they were ready in the OR. She looked at me and immediately came over and started talking to me. She took my hand and never let go the entire time we talked. She reassured me that she would be in the OR taking care of me along with a strong staff. She continued to rub my hand and tell me to take deep breaths, which did begin to have a calming effect. I was given an oxygen mask and put under. This nurse never left my bedside until I was under. She is the most compassionate nurse I have come across. She truly cared about my total well-being. Not only does she have strong nursing skills, but her compassion for her patient’s places her among the best. She truly is most deserving of the DAISY Award. Thank you, Nurse Kirsten Johnson.
