Kourtney has been so very kind to my grandmother as she sits by my grandfather's bed. She is honest and open. You can see how much Kourtney cares in every moment that she is with them. Kourtney is a true inspiration to nursing and people alike.

Kourtney and I had been trading off the same patients for several days; I worked the day shift and she worked the night shift. One of the patients was doing very poorly and due to the prognosis, the family decided to withdraw care. The patient passed away later on my shift. The family (many of them individually) made sure to mention to me how much they appreciated Kourtney and her care during their loved one's final days. Each time I followed her, someone from the family would mention how wonderful Kourtney had been, specifically how she had the perfect balance of kindness while still being honest about the patient's condition, even when it was difficult or upsetting.
I believe this is the type of nurse the Barnes family wanted to honor as it was this type of nurse, they had met during their son Patrick's final days.
