Demonstrating Kindness and Compassion to Patients and Families: Kristen can often be found spending extra time with her patients and family, getting to know them personally and bonding with them. She is extremely kind and compassionate towards all patients, their families, and the other hospital staff.
Providing Skills Care to Patients and Families: Kristen provides the highest level of skilled care to all of her patients. She remains calm in the face of emergencies and also moves swiftly and efficiently to ensure patient safety and reinforce positive patient outcomes. She responds to situations as if she was an experienced nurse. I have never seen her have idle time. If she has a free moment, she spends it helping her co-workers with their patient loads, cleaning the unit, or doing other productive tasks.
Informing and Educating Patients and Families: I recently witnessed Kristen explaining the procedure involved with an epidural. She was extremely thorough, precise and described the process in a way the patient could relate to and comprehend. I was very impressed with her professional yet, understandable language.
Offering a Voice of Hope and Love to Patients and Families: Kristen emits a calming glow everywhere she goes. This is very apparent when you enter the rooms of the patients she is caring for. Even in unfavorable outcomes, Kristen's persona creates a peaceful environment where patients can feel hope and love. I truly believe, this is the only place some of these patients feel that way.
Touching the Lives of Others: I hope that Kristen's attitude will catch like wildfire on our unit and spread throughout the hospital. She recently cared for me, after having a cesarean section and she was absolutely wonderful to my family and me. She made sure that we all had a moment to bond with our baby and that we were all comfortable in our stay. She treated us with the utmost respect, and I have never seen her treat any of her patients any differently. If there was ever a nurse deserving of the Daisy Award, it is Kristen. She has blossomed and shines beautifully in our hospital system and she deserves to know that her co-workers appreciate and respect her.
