Kristie cared for my dad for 4 days in a row. I know he was a difficult patient to care for. He was confused and impulsive at times. However, Kristie always showed such compassion and patience towards my dad, even when he wasn't aware of it. She kept him safe and encouraged him to get better. My dad slowly improved, and I'm convinced that her expert care and open empathetic personality played a major role in that. I know her clinical skills were excellent but more importantly, I watched her wash his face and brush his hair and share little moments with him that brought his spirit back. As a DAISY Award Honoree myself, I can say she made our profession proud and inspired me to be a better nurse. It was hard to be on the other side of healthcare, but with a nurse like Kristie at the bedside, I felt I could not have done a better job myself. After reading this to my dad he said, "the only thing I'd add was she was always smiling and made me feel like she was glad to see me no matter what kind of mess I was in". Thanks for giving me my dad back!
