I had the opportunity to supervise Krystal Houston during her clinical rotation. I enjoyed working with her and witnessing her growth. She presented to the clinical site ready to learn and prepared to implement nursing care.

Krystal was consistent in her approach each day. She showed up with a positive attitude and accepted all assignments, regardless of the challenge. Any task that was assigned to her was implemented with care and compassion.

I can recall the day when Krystal had to provide ostomy care. Considering the known literature that an ostomy can lead to a significant change in the body image of a client, Krystal made the client feel comfortable by applying all measures to maintain the client’s dignity, explaining the reason for the care and every step she was making to provide the care. At the end of care, the client was extremely pleased. This is one of the multiple observations I had with Krystal.

In addition to the clinical experience, she was extremely engaging during classroom discussions and involved herself in multiple school activities (i.e. lunch and learns, tutoring, mentorship, and group assignments). She has impressed the faculty of Jersey College with her intellectual curiosity, passion for nursing, thoughtful actions, and positive attitude. She brought her classmates together by arranging team-building activities and highlighting all the attributes of her peers. Krystal is hard-working, thoughtful, charismatic, and open-minded, and she is very deserving of this Student DAISY Award!
