BSN, RN
A patient arrived after a bicycle accident. He was unresponsive and was not able to provide any information. He was intubated shortly afterward. His injuries were life threatening and we were unable to contact any family members. Kylie was able to find the patient's name and his wife's phone number in his belongings and gave that information to law enforcement who were able to contact his wife. She spoke with the doctors and, after a period of time, made the difficult decision to withdraw care, which was his and his wife's wishes.
Had Kylie not been able to find the patient’s information, the patient would have had more invasive procedures which would have prolonged his life beyond what he would have wished. Kylie's quick action allowed for his wife to make the decision and abide by her husband's wishes. It was a great service to this patient and his family. The patient's wife was extremely thankful that Kylie was able to contact her and grant her husband's wishes of being a DNR/DNI and ultimately making him more comfortable with his family.
Kylie provides compassionate care to every patient she takes care of. Kylie gets numerous compliments from her patients about the care that she provides for them.
Kylie's patients state that she is "caring and really makes me feel heard."
Kylie takes a holistic approach when caring for every patient that she encounters. Specifically, for our patients in the DEA, Kylie makes sure they have everything they need. She takes tremendous pride in her care every day and this truly shows why she is such a great nominee for the DAISY Award. Kylie was born to be an ER nurse. She is calm, caring, and goes above and beyond for every patient.
