Laura is the backbone of our unit. She continually goes above and beyond for our patients.
Laura is a vital team member of the ICU, supporting nurses throughout her day. This is just one example of many I would like to share. My patient had been discharged and we were waiting on meds to beds and it was nearing the end of Laura’s shift. She waited until meds to beds were completed and made sure the patient had a ride to his car (Uber). There is a very small time limit an Uber waits, so Laura called for the Uber and personally walked the patient to the Uber. It's these little things that she does which helps the nursing staff greatly.

Laura Banse is the Nurse Case Manager for the ICU. She goes above and beyond her job title every day, even on her days off. She is so helpful to our unit that you can tell when she is not here. As a nurse working in the unit, I know I can depend on her for my patient’s needs. Whether the patient needs guardianship, meds to beds, SNF/LTACH placement after discharge, etc. she strives to find the best for that patient. Laura even follows up after the patient is out of the ICU. I specifically had a patient with “locked-in syndrome” that had very specific needs for discharge and a family that was not the easiest to work with. Laura not only worked with the patient and family to find the best options for them, but she checked on me and made sure I was also taken care of. Laura possesses such care and compassion that can only come from a nurse. She is essential to the ICU team.

Laura is the backbone of our unit. She continually goes above and beyond for our patients. She specifically makes sure that each patient has a smooth discharge, that the patient’s loved ones are updated and informed and is always available to assist the staff even on off-hours. I had to call Laura at home one evening with a question from another unit. That unit called me because they didn’t know how to obtain a state DNR band. From home, Laura walked me through the process to ensure that the patient could still be discharged that evening and that there were no further delays. She frequently sets up rides for family members that don’t have access to a vehicle so that they can come visit their loved ones. If a patient comes in with no documented relatives or contacts and is unable to speak, Laura always seems to find someone. Laura always has a good rapport with the patients and their families. She is so great at collaborating with the entire team, the MDs, nurses, families, ancillary departments and outside agencies. If I have a question, I can always count on Laura to know the answer or help me find it.
