I met Lauren while my sister was in the CVICU after having heart surgery to correct multiple heart defects. She has known for a while she would need surgery and, as we approached the date, her biggest concern and fear was waking up alone and being alone in the ICU, especially in the open room format which seemed a little scary going into this event. She wanted me and our other sister there with her, but we knew that wasn't possible with ICU visiting hours. I'm sharing this, so you can understand that Lauren went way beyond her nursing duties when she made my sister feel like she had someone with her during that time. She took care of her medically and emotionally too. It was like having a sister there and I'm not sure anyone else could have fulfilled that need for my sister. The time spent in the CVICU was the hardest for my sister and none of us can imagine her going through that without Lauren. We can't thank her enough and will always remember her!
