I was admitted to the hospital recently quite weak and depleted in mind, body, and soul. I struggle with an eating disorder and felt severely ill at the time of my admission. For my first weekend at the hospital, my day nurse was Lauren from the 6 East neuro unit. Lauren is truly an angel. Truly. I am immensely grateful for how kind, warm, diligent, generous, and thoughtful Lauren was throughout my entire stay. With Lauren as my nurse, I felt cared for as a patient and, more importantly, as a person. That sense of mattering to someone else, even a stranger, has been huge for me. Lauren was my nurse for a few days, and on each shift, she went above and beyond to provide me with exceptional care. With Lauren, I felt seen and heard. I can’t begin to explain how good that felt. Lauren’s care has reminded me of my self-worth, a concept that I struggle with. I believe that Lauren has earned acknowledgment for her exceptional nursing care. I will always be grateful for her thoughtfulness. Lauren from 6 East is an astounding nurse and deserves this award.
