I was in the hospital for a prostatectomy. My recovery was not going well. Early on the third night I went into atrial fibrillation and was transferred to the Progressive Care unit. I was scared and in pain. The medical staff continued to evaluate me, adjusting treatment throughout a very long night. By morning I continued to be very concerned about my condition and outcome. Leeann came into my room to introduce herself as my caregiver for the day. I believe she sensed my anxiety; she showed great compassion and took the time to explain my condition. She assured me that we can make me feel better. She listened to my ailments and made sure they were communicated to my doctors. Very soon my treatment was being adjusted and for the first time I felt I was on a course towards wellness.
Leeann was my nurse for the three days I was in the cardiac unit. Throughout my stay she followed up with me after the doctors came to visit. She helped me understand my progress and helped me communicate with the doctors in a way I could not. I knew I was in knowledgeable, experienced hands who respected me and was truly an advocate. I had three specialists tending to me, it was the weekend so each practice had an on-call doctor and there was some confusion regarding my discharge. Leeann took the initiative to coordinate between the medical team and got me discharged one day early. I will always remember Leeann as a dedicated person who will do her best to insure the best possible outcome for her patients. She does it with humor, hard work, respect and empathy for all those fortunate to come into her care.
