Monoclonal antibodies are emergency-released IV infusions, seen to have significant effects on moderate symptoms for COVID-19. As the clinic was opened the thought was to infuse a handful of patients, but with much success and Leslie and her team’s help South Texas has infused over 115 Veterans! The infusion clinic is new to south Texas and located in the front parking lot (C-fort). Though at first, the clinic faced many challenges with the initial setup and coordination involving many services, Ms. Acron used her experience with COVID and her expertise to get the job done, administering the first-ever Bamlanivimab infusion at STX. Ms. Acron gets on-site early every morning to set up the clinic and make sure she has what she needs for the day. At the end of the day, she ensures that the area is broken down and terminally cleaned for the next day. Her exceptional care and commitment to the Veterans are seen every day at the clinic.
One day a Veteran told Ms. Acron that he was very concerned about his spouse who was also COVID positive and wanted to make sure she was also able to get the infusion as well. While caring for him, she began contacting the prescribing physician asking how this could be done. By the end of the appointment, Ms. Acron had emailed the Veteran a variety of resources and information on similar infusion clinics. When following up with the Veteran after the appointment the Veteran stated that he was able to get his wife the help she needed, and he received outstanding care from Leslie. “I felt like I woke up from a dream, I am feeling much better,” he also went on to say “that the infusion nurse (Leslie) was an Angel, I was very sick and scared that day, but she made me feel at ease.” Ms. Acron exhibits the ICARE values with the care and commitment to our nation's Veterans.
