Lisa worked with the Emergency Department to get a Doc-to-Doc consult and get the patient transferred to our ER and ultimately admitted to our MSU.
This story is being written on behalf of the entire Neurology clinic. The Neurology nurse, Lisa Arnett, is known to go above and beyond for her patients. With a 3 doctor, 6 technician and 1 admin team, Lisa is the only RN in a clinic that is seated to have two.
The neurology clinic had an active duty Army patient who was being seen for a follow up. The Army patient began having hallucinations while stationed at this last base in Missouri. In Missouri, the patient had an MRI completed which showed some abnormality. Regardless to what the MRI showed, his previous base still allowed the patient to PSC from Missouri to Florida. The patient began to see a doctor here where they continued the hallucinations workup.
During the patient’s follow up appointment, the patient stated that the hallucinations were worsening, and he had started experiencing new symptoms as well. The doctor immediately informed Lisa about the case and Lisa coordinated a STAT MRI with the radiology department. The STAT MRI showed a large mass. Due to the concern for what could possibly be a brain tumor, Lisa got on the task without hesitation and made all the calls needed to ensure patient care was met immediately. Lisa worked with the Emergency Department to get a Doc-to-Doc consult and get the patient transferred to our ER and ultimately admitted to our MSU.
While working with the ER to get the patient transferred down, Lisa prepped and assisted the doctor in a spinal tap procedure. After the spinal tap was completed in the Neurology clinic, we received clearance from the ER to transfer the patient down to their department. Even after the patient was transferred from the Neurology clinic to the Eglin ER, Lisa then called and coordinated care with a case manager from Tyndall Air Force Base. Lisa is still working this case with the Tyndall AFB case manager to make sure the patient gets the medical care he deserves and also gets reimbursed for any money he spent out of pocket to get from location to location. Lisa provided the patient and the patient’s family with assurance that they would get the help they needed.
Lisa is a nurse who consistently surpasses expectations. She is always caring for other people and puts her patients before herself. Lisa was supposed to be driving to Atlanta with her family for leave. Lisa could have pushed this case off onto another nurse so she could get home to her family and prepare for her next day trip. However, that wasn’t even a thought in her mind. She worked hours without hesitation or frustration. Lisa is the most caring nurse in the med specialty flight. She does whatever it takes to provide care for her patients.
