She has such great compassion and empathy that patients know she is speaking from her heart and really wants to hear how we can improve our care.
Lisa has worked here at the Surgery Center since 2013. She has held many positions here at the here. She began as an OR nurse, and because of her great attention to detail, she has become our Risk Manager. She also leads our team with educating staff about any and all changes to policies. Conducting drills, assigning education modules that are required to keep everyone current on our yearly health stream. She is so good at helping each person with any concerns or questions about new policies or procedures. Lisa has such a vast knowledge of what changes are taking place and the why behind those changes. She never makes anyone feel bad about asking questions. In fact, she exhibits a comprehensive understanding of others' views and ideas.

In a world with many problems, we can all agree that meeting someone with poise and a good attitude can be a challenge. Fortunately for us, we have Lisa. For example, a physician I spoke with said that her morning greetings seem to him as being the most genuine of anyone. Another staff member commented that when she was going through cancer treatment, she received a personal note every time she did chemo, reminding her that she wasn’t in that battle alone. And that she could call or text with any needs, and she truly believed Lisa would do anything to help her through that time.

I can attest that I have never heard her complain about or speak poorly about anyone. I have personally watched her interactions with staff, and you NEVER see her play favoritism, but yet making you feel that you are her favorite as she is speaking to you.

Lisa is a great example of HCA's values of Respect and inclusion. If you are speaking with her you will feel like she is having the most important conversation. And this is because she gives you her full attention.

When Lisa enters a room, what follows next is a great sense of relief and comfort because she is so calming. Her professionalism is unparalleled, she performs her duties with such reliable timeliness and organization. For instance, when I asked her assistance in gathering information regarding my professional employee documents, she brought them to me within the hour! Lisa not only holds the risk manager position but also floats to the OR when needed. She so models teamwork.

Once I had a patient that was going to be transferred to the hospital. Instead of looking for someone else to help me, she stepped in to help with the stabilization of the patient and the transfer.

Not many people would want to take on the task of calling disgruntled patients but Lisa does this without batting an eye. She does it with such a soft tone in her voice and such kindness that patients often are talking about all the good we have done, by the end of the conversation. She has such great compassion and empathy that patients know she is speaking from her heart and really wants to hear how we can improve our care.

If you know the story about the elves and the shoemaker, you know that the shoes are made every morning, and no one knows who did it. Well in our case that would be Lisa! She is behind the scenes making sure all things will run smoothly. She makes sure we have linens, mops for cleaning, food, and drink in both the physician lounge and for the families of our patients. She also stocks the kitchen for employees.

I have been fortunate to have known and witnessed her in action with patients and staff over the last ten years and what she does is nothing short of Magical. It is my humble opinion that there is no one more deserving of the DAISY Award than Lisa Dotson.
