Comments from her patients and coworkers:
Lisa was very kind to my son and took time to teach me to care for my son's site. ALWAYS willing to try and answer any questions I had. When I came in crying and stressed she took time out from what she was doing to talk with me, and help me understand. She also found others to come talk to me to help ease my mind. She was always willing to answer the phone and give me test results. ALWAYS kind and caring. A very special nurse.

Lisa Holbrook is a VCU SON graduate who came to our unit directly after graduation in January of 2013. When we brought Lisa onto out unit, we knew she was an exceptional person and her first year as a nurse has not diminished our opinion.

Lisa is a model novice nurse. In the spirit of the DAISY Award, she is a model of the values of relationship based care. The family that has made this nomination experienced great anxiety during a stressful admission of their son to our unit. Lisa, in her usual fashion, approached them with the skill of a much more experienced nurse. She consciously worked to create a true healing environment for the family, and in particular the mother of the patient. Lisa demonstrated that every interaction with the patient and the family by any member of the team was a valuable opportunity to promote healing. She gave time to sitting and listening to their concerns and fears; being emotionally present to them always.

Lisa demonstrates a fundamental belief that patients and families have the capacity to survive and thrive, even in events that are traumatic. She shows this belief in her outward respect and maintenance of their dignity. She consistently supports and advocates for patients and their families.

I was very upset and she would come in and listen to me and comfort me. She was very prompt attending to my needs whenever I called. She is a great caring and excellent nurse.
