I am in the Living Donor program (hopefully to donate a kidney to anyone who needs it). The last month I have been through the screening and testing, including a ureteroscopy. After the right ureter stent was removed, I experienced severe ureteral spasm which led me to the ED. It was excruciating! I was the only one, doubled up in a wheelchair, crying, panting, and sometimes screaming in the waiting room. The ED team was quick to get my blood drawn and urine test. In approximately 20 minutes I was taken back to a room on a stretcher. That's where I met Lisa. She was calm, quick, and efficient! She had my IV in (and I was a moving target!) and meds were given quickly! Thank God! When the pain stopped, I could finally open my eyes and relax -- I saw Lisa. She said, "Well, there you are -- look how beautiful you are -- you look like Glenn Close." I said, “No one has said that to me for years!" Lisa said with humor, "Yeah, you know, in that movie Fatal Attraction where Glenn Close bolts out of the water after attempted strangulation by Michael Douglas." She and I burst out laughing! Then the doctor walked in happy to see that the pain meds were successful! I am so grateful for Lisa's experience, skill, and personality! Thanks to all the staff and medical professionals at Mayo!
