Lisa made arrangements for the patient's affairs so she did not have to worry while at the hospital and while recovering. Lisa's heart knows NO boundaries!
I have known Lisa her entire nursing career and have been fortunate to work alongside her for part of that time. She has had a major impact on my career as a nurse. I have witnessed Lisa take part in countless selfless acts. She is the "Poster Nurse" for her commitment to extraordinary service, clinical excellence, and compassion. I can list off several times Lisa has gone above and beyond, but today specifically, I would like to recognize her for her yet again behind-the-scenes efforts.
She rounded on a patient who was waiting on a bed in the ER. I do not know a lot of details, but the patient was admitted to the ortho floor after surgery. The patient was out of town visiting and experienced an injury that brought her to the ER and then led to surgery. When Lisa met her, the patient was very distraught. She was worried about her arrangements and her camper and campsite. Lisa made arrangements for the patient's affairs so she did not have to worry while at the hospital and while recovering. Lisa's heart knows NO boundaries! She will do anything for anyone, even if that means exhausting herself.
She often does things behind the scenes and never looks for recognition or praise. Through talking to her this week, I brought up the DAISY Award. To my knowledge, Lisa has never been a recipient of a DAISY Award, which is mind-blowing. As a DAISY Award recipient myself, I understand first hand what an honor it is to receive this award. I feel strongly that Lisa deserves to add this honor to her list of accomplishments/achievements because there is truly no one more deserving.
Lisa not only shows compassion to her patients but also to other nurses. She takes all nurses under her wing and guides them and supports them like no one I've ever seen before. One of my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou is, "People will forget the things you said, but people will never forget the way you made them feel." I know that everyone who encounters Lisa leaves feeling like she cares about them like they are family.
