We are not out of the woods yet but have made significant strides due to Lori’s focus.
I am an 81-year-old patient who started visiting Salem Hospital. I saw several very competent and caring nurses weekly and bi-weekly for a year. We made some progress in reducing the pain, but progress was extremely slow.
In late 2020 this unit reorganized, and nurses were reassigned, and a new nurse was assigned to me, and for some reason, my appointments had to be changed from early morning to afternoons. This schedule change required me to not eat breakfast before my appointment until mid-afternoon. My new nurse, Lori, recognized the inconvenience of going without eating until mid-afternoon and adjusted their schedule to allow me to get early morning appointments. That was the first action for which I’m grateful.
Since I have been seeing this nurse she has worked diligently to coordinate with my physician at BWH in Boston, which has resulted in significant improvement in my condition, discomfort, and quality of life. We are not out of the woods yet but have made significant strides due to Lori’s focus. In addition, she has taken the time to notice that I am somewhat slow-moving and has provided some exercise videos and suggestions to improve my mobility. I acknowledge that nurses have been under a lot of stress with long hours etc. during the past year, but her “bedside manners” have surpassed all expectations during these difficult times.
