Lori is an exceptional nurse. She goes above and beyond repeatably. A homeless VA patient came into the clinic for a visit with the doctor. He hadn’t eaten, used a bathroom, or slept in a bed in a really long time. He was living in a car outside even during the summer heat. Lori went to the cafeteria and got him food. She sat and ate her lunch with him and just talked. She then called the VA case manager and sat on the phone on hold for over an hour trying to find a place for this man to stay while undergoing his cancer treatment. He hung out in the clinic all day and she attended to him and tried everything to take care of him. At the end of the clinic day, he didn’t have a ride back to his living space. A “friend” dropped him off but never returned to pick him up. Lori was on the phone again trying the VA, and the ER Social Worker but no help was given. The nurse then called Lyft for the patient to return home. She waited with him until he was safe in the car and was on his way. In the end, he refused all care and didn’t want any help. But Lori put in all the hard work and at least gave him the option. Thank you for caring so much about people!
