A Nursing Instructor from Norfolk State University submitted this nomination for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for Lucy Kooiman, our Administrative Director of Behavioral Medicine Services:
Norfolk State University (NSU) students had a wonderful orientation and first week of clinical from Maryview. Mrs. Lucy M. Kooiman is an NSU graduate and was a real inspiration to the students. The patience and understanding offered was really quite professional and welcoming. She understands where students are coming from and shows them an enormous amount of understanding while using theoretical platforms. Very impressive, her welcome inspired the students so much.
This rotation, as you know, can be a little overwhelming to nursing students. The staff and Mrs. Kooiman were really top notch and I wanted to thank you and the team. It is just so wonderful to work with professionals who understand the value of this clinical experience and can inspire students at the same time.
