I have a medically fragile son who has CHARGE syndrome. Lucy goes above and beyond her job responsibilities in making sure my son has the best care possible as well as making sure our family has the emotional support we need. Lucy is the definition of a nurse advocate when it comes to her patients. We thank God and CCHMC that Lucy is there, she's been a lifeline for our family.
My son has had many procedures done at CCHMC. Lucy is always there for our family. She has sat in the surgery waiting room with us providing us emotional support. Lucy has visited us many times while we have been inpatient with "good" coffee in hand and a smile on her face. Lucy has spent countless hours coordinating care with our doctors, so we don't have to make as many trips.
Lucy provides education and resources for our family on CHARGE syndrome. Lucy has provided education to our family on acute otitis media care, Cirpo Dex drop use, surgery schedules, and the correct way to advocate as a parent so our voice and concerns and heard.
Lucy is now a familiar face to not only me but my son. Lucy has met us in various clinic waiting rooms to play and visit with us while we wait for our scheduled appointments (which sometimes the wait is an hour+). Lucy provides me with verbal assurance and comfort when I'm anxious about a procedure or appointment.
Lucy makes sure we are involved in shared medical decision making. This can be something as simple as coordinating an appointment at another campus, so we don't have to drive to the main campus; to something more complex with all of my son's specialty care. Lucy goes over the plan of care to make sure we understand and agree with us being done for our son. Lucy is a valuable asset to CCHMC, and our family would be lost without her.
