In addition to her fantastic bedside manners, Lydia showed genuine interest in helping the patient and our family despite being very busy.
On Wednesday, I was at the hospital with my son, who had a TEE done with Dr. S. When the procedure was done, the doctor tried calling me, but the call did not go through due to the poor reception in the waiting room. Understandably, the doctor had to leave for his next procedure. Later, a nurse came by to take me to my son's recovery area. Since the doctor had to leave while my son was still not entirely out of anesthesia, we did not get a chance to discuss the findings with him directly. When I went in to see my son, Lydia was already taking great care of my son, explaining everything with great care. Lydia explained what the doctor had explained to her and that the doctor tried to call me before he had to go. When I explained that I had driven more than 7 hours to be here with my son to learn about the results of the procedure, she was very sympathetic. She explained that we could get a CD of the procedure images plus a report once the doctor signed it. She volunteered to go with me to the radiology documents department, introduced me to the person in charge there, and set me up to receive a phone call once the report was available.
The documents person called me the next day and we were able to get the report. In addition to her fantastic bedside manners, Lydia showed genuine interest in helping the patient and our family despite being very busy. It's easy to advertise Human Kindness, but very difficult to do it in real life in moments when you are very busy. Lydia personified Human Kindness! And every time I thanked her for that, she simply said she was only doing her job and was glad to help. Thank you to her and the hospital's management for creating a patient-centric environment.
Note: This is Lydia's 2nd DAISY Award!
