I was admitted through the ER for an emergency appendectomy. Since I take Warfarin, it was imperative that my INR be lowered to allow for surgery as soon as possible. I was moved from the ER to an observation unit to accommodate my INR reduction for this surgery. At that time Lynne Kooiman was a "floater" and assigned to the unit who needed her the most. I feel very fortunate that she had been assigned to my unit!
Lynne, with her special caring ways, stayed with me the whole time. She was extremely patient with me and explained in great detail why I would need a plasma infusion to lower my INR to an acceptable surgical level. She allayed all my fears and answered all of my questions; always taking the time to connect with me on a personal level. As a result, I felt confident and secure when I left for surgery the next morning. I think Lynne absolutely deserves the DAISY Award for being such an outstanding RN. She was certainly there for me when I needed it the most!
