She was a great person who just listened and supported my emotional needs. It felt like I was talking to a close friend or a family member.
When I first got back from taking a break, Madison cared about my needs first. She asked about a blanket, coffee, better Kleenex, all while just starting her shift. She was very thorough in answering all the questions I had about the blood pressure, O2 sat, and heart rate. She explained the answers to why the numbers were fluctuating. She explained all the medical questions that I had about my father’s disease so I understood it. She went over all the medications she was giving, as well as the frequency of each medication. She wanted to make sure I understood each medication and what it did to help my dad. She did this through the entire comfort and care process. She was a great person who just listened and supported my emotional needs. It felt like I was talking to a close friend or a family member. When talking with her, we had our doubts about if we did the right thing by putting him on comfort care because his numbers stayed stable for a while. She then explained to me the alternative procedure, even though it was explained to me many times before. She explained it in a way that I knew we made the right decision. She came back to the room and always cared about my needs. She brought me a coffee with more than enough options so that I would be comfortable sitting with my father during the last couple of hours I had with him. I really had to use the bathroom and Madison was aware that my father would be passing soon due to his declining numbers. She knew that I didn’t want to let my father pass alone without one of his children by his side. She stayed by him and made sure he was not alone. While I quickly ran to the bathroom, she knew that I wouldn’t make it to the visitor bathroom, so she let me use the staff bathroom. I was really thankful for this because I made it back into the room just in time to hold his hand while he passed. She went above and beyond to make sure that I got to spend that time with my father and she explained that it wasn’t something that they do for visitors but she wanted to make sure that I was with my dad during his passing. After he passed, she had asked if she needed to call anyone to come up to be with me or my father during this time. She then came over and gave me a hug and showed me the biggest heart anyone could have. She then let me know that I could stay as long as I wanted to say my final goodbyes.
