I work with Madi in the ER and have always been amazed at her calm, tender style that patients truly appreciate. It was a patient who was unable to respond to her kindness that impressed me to tears at her compassion and kindness. A patient was wheeled into Trauma 2. He had attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head. It was early in the process that it was determined that he would pass from his self inflicted wound. Madi knew this but kept talking to him, reassuring him that his pain would be over soon, that she would be there the entire time, and she was. As she was preparing the patient for his passing she continued to pat his arm and talk softly with kind and comforting words. And she did exactly that until the end.
I asked her about her method and this is what she said, "I have heard that the last sense to go is hearing. I would hope that if I were getting ready to die, someone would be there for me, encouraging, comforting." And she did that as the patient passed from this reality to the next. I can tell you that her acts of service, kindness, and humanity brought me to tears. Madi treats every one of her patients the same way, regardless of why they come to the ER. Madi is a great nurse who provides incredible professionalism and kindness to her patients every time. She is the perfect example of a DAISY Nurse!
