I had a heart ablation in January. Because I've had bleeding issues with past procedures, it was decided to keep me overnight. It's a good thing I was there... in the early evening my groin insertion point started bleeding profusely. My blood pressure fell, and at one point there were five nurses in the room working together to staunch the bleeding. After they got the bleeding stopped, they all went back to their responsibilities.

Malinda was now my nurse who would be with me through the night. She was marvelous! I had some seepage and a little pain. She checked on me throughout the night, not satisfied until my bleeding totally stopped and I was resting comfortably. It was almost like she was my private nurse with no other patients! She was concerned, professional, and vigilant. I really felt at peace that I was being well cared for. I hadn't eaten since before the procedure, so by 10 PM I was really hungry (I hadn't felt much like eating before then). Malinda discovered there were no sandwich packs in the refrigerator, so somehow found a meatloaf dinner she prepared for me.

I have had caring nurses in the past, but Malinda was exceptional. She represents the balance of professionalism and compassion that I think represents the best in nursing care.
