Maranda made a huge difference in the case of my mom. She's been a nurse for 3 years, I discovered but her previous medical experiences coupled with her strong interpersonal skills, etc. (communication style) is evident in her approach and ease - not afraid to address questions - realizes it's not about her but various medical issues that cropped up in mother's post-op course. She's caring and compassionate. Being comfortable in her own skin made her easy to approach. She called Ostomy to start care. She has strong critical thinking skills as evidenced throughout the day (12 hour shift). Examples - holding BP meds for low BP, voiced quickly as well as holding anticoagulant therapies due to blood work, this was voiced early in the day, so I could see she did address same concerns I had. She did assessments which I did appreciate. In fact, she made reassessments on labs, nausea, pain resp., bleeding all which impacted her day. She communicated to providers as needed. Her lytes were down and she addressed it. Her H/H were down and she addressed this along with mom's drainage form JP. She got meds out and IV fluids in good time and reassessed. Now she's getting blood after concern of H/H trending down and she facilitated recheck when wound oozing and platelets down. Everything between medical post-op needs in an 80-year-old to her compassion and advocacy was really important to me. Handled multiple issues on a busy day.
