This nurse is working behind the scenes to help improve the quality of life of our patients in our community. She often goes above and beyond for patients, but recently, she showed just how far her compassion and concern for our patients reaches. Marcie is the structural heart coordinator for our TAVR program at TMC. As part of that job, she checks daily on patients as part of leadership rounding. Earlier in the month, she rounded on an older gentleman on the 4th floor who was distraught with worry over his furry companion at home. The patient stated that he was all alone and had no one to check on his dog. His worry and frustration were heightened by the fact that he had been in the hospital now for almost five days, and no one had fed, watered, or checked on the animal. With permission from the patient, Marcie and her husband, who is a local police officer, performed a wellness check on the property to check on the status of the pet. She also bought food for the dog to feed him and left it at the patient’s house. Marcie was able to provide the animals basic necessities, and the patient’s mental anguish and worry were relieved, and he was finally able to relax and try to begin the healing process.
