Marianne is compassionate always to staff and employees. Always there to help, lend a hand, teach, and congratulate. She puts her whole self into all she does.
As a new Clinical Manager of the area, I am overwhelmed with the knowledge, and work ethic but mostly the care and compassion Marianne Mancini has for the patients and staff. It is clear in all that she does that customer service is her passion. Marianne always makes her customers feel important and consistently goes above and beyond to exceed their expectations so that all feel “cared for”. This is true for her most valuable customers, our patients as well as the staff in PAT. The following are the thoughts and examples from our staff.
Exemplifies the mission, vision, and shared values (CARE) of The Miriam Hospital and Lifespan: I have watched Marianne grow from a new grad on the night shift to a leader in our PAT department. She guided our unit through COVID and gave emotional support to all of us. She developed working pools to provide easier flow and communication between secretaries, nurse practitioners, and nurses which also created a paperless environment. I have seen her compassion for our patients to the degree of going to Job Lot to buy sweatpants for a homeless patient. She is always thinking of the patient first and comes up with creative ideas to solve problems that put the patient in the center of care.
Creates an environment/Role Model: Over the past year, Marianne has worked incredibly hard to create an environment that is adaptive, accessible, and responsive to the need of staff and our patients. She has guided the department through an extremely difficult time and is an incredible role model. Our department was tasked with the responsibility of coordinating COVID testing for all surgical patients on top of our other duties. We lost many staff as well as our manager, and Marianne worked long hours every day to ensure all our patients were taken care of and that our department ran smoothly. Marianne always listens to the staff with full attention (as well as patients and other colleagues). I and others feel her warmth and I would trust her with my thoughts/feelings/concerns both in work as well as outside factors (non-work related/ unexpected events). I lost someone due to COVID and as much as I tried to work the next day, my grief got the better of me and I had to call out the remainder of my shift. When I heard her compassion and understanding toward my situation, I knew she was one of the most trusted colleagues I will probably have the privilege of working next to.
Motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and patients: Marianne stepped up from supervisor to assist our unit, as our manager, when our nurse manager left in 2020. Throughout the Pandemic she worked endless hours to keep our unit going. We were working from home due to COVID restrictions for face-to-face patients. Marianne developed a nursing chart pool for charts to be put in if we didn’t reach them that day. That way if we need to have a patient to call, we just go into the pool. She also started a secretary pool for charts with notes and testing pending. These pools have made our workflow easier and assure all our patients are ready for surgery on time. Marianne is always available to the staff for questions and is tech-savvy to help with IT issues. She is a mentor for our staff. Marianne consistently goes above and beyond. She is always looking at ways to improve our workflow for staff and our patients. We are lucky to have such a devoted leader.
There are countless situations that deserve mention. Marianne stepped up in PAT and not only did her job but acted as interim nurse manager when the department had none. Nonetheless during a pandemic! She kept the staff motivated during a very difficult time with her caring and positive approachable attitude. I am sure all the staff would agree that Marianne kept this unit afloat while striving to maintain nursing/patient excellence.
Accessible, available, and responsive: We could not have pulled off the technical and mental aspects of our work here in PAT without Marianne. During COVID we achieved many things together with her support, innovation, and kindness. She continued nonstop work to help maintain our ever-changing lives. Work was bearable because of her! Marianne is compassionate always to staff and employees. Always there to help, lend a hand, teach, and congratulate. She puts her whole self into all she does. Thank you for your commitment to professional nursing and congratulations on this recognition!
