I found an abundance of calmness in the way she cared for me. She was soft-spoken, always speaking quietly, calmly, and assuring.
I have a chronic illness that causes me to be hospitalized often and for long periods of time. I was most recently discharged after 3 1/2 weeks at Kaiser. I was on unit 430 where I have been admitted almost every time I've been hospitalized. The 430 Nurses, staff and I know each other and every one of them is excellent. Among this wonderful team, there is one nurse who cared for me during my last admission who really stands out, Nurse Marife.

It's hard to put into words exactly what this nurse did for me but I will try. Whenever Marife entered my room, there was a feeling of serenity and release of some of my anxiety. This was just from seeing her enter my room! I was always thrilled to know she was working "tomorrow" because it made me breathe easier knowing she would be my nurse the next day. I found an abundance of calmness in the way she cared for me. She was soft-spoken, always speaking quietly, calmly, and assuring. I was often crying when she came to my bedside and there was a special way she looked at me that helped me settle down. Something in her eyes perhaps. Yes, I believe it was her eyes that said "I'm here for you" during my lowest points, her gentle touch and demeanor made my struggle easier. And, on top of this, her nursing skills were spot on.

I could go on and on. The staff of 430, and especially this nurse, are the best. They have helped me through difficult times again and again. In the weeks since I've been home, I continue to have many difficult moments. If only Marife did home visits, I know my days would be brighter. Thank you Marife.
