She really touched my heart with how wonderfully she cared for our injured son and how compassionate and kind she was with me, the mom, who was naturally stressed and freaking out.
My husband and I visited the ACH Park Ridge Emergency Room in March, after our 4-year-old son fell into a metal coffee table and sliced his ear.  It was obvious he needed stitches, but we didn't know if there was any additional damage or harm due to the fall.  After a few hours of evaluations and consults with specialists, it was determined that he would need stitches and sedation.  While we saw many lovely doctors, nurses, and techs during the several hours that we were there, Nurse Marcy made it a point to ensure that our son was as comfortable as he could be under the circumstances.

She not only took care of his sedation and watched his vitals while he was getting his sutures, but she also made it a point to explain to me what was happening, why certain things were happening, and what things could happen to alleviate some of the stress that naturally comes with seeing your child in pain.  She really touched my heart with how wonderfully she cared for our injured son and how compassionate and kind she was with me, the mom, who was naturally stressed and freaking out.

Afterward, she took time to help us troubleshoot how to keep his sutures clean and dry on our vacation, on which we were leaving just a short day and a half later.  She understood how important it was for our son to be able to participate in the beach and water activities with all the other children who were joining us on vacation and proposed different ideas and methods for us to cover the sutures and protect them from the elements while also allowing him to be a carefree kid on vacation.

Thanks to her suggestions, our son was able to swim and play on the beach while also taking care of his sutures and keeping them dry and infection-free. I don't know if we could have had that same experience had we not received the creative suggestions and tips from Marcy.

We certainly recognize how the injuries our son was being treated for are minor in the grand scheme.  What stands out, however, is how we never felt that way while being cared for by Nurse Marcy.  She made us feel like our feelings and concerns were valid and went above and beyond what was necessary to suggest ways to address them when she could have just as easily moved on to other patients.  She was amazing, and we felt she deserved to be recognized for going above and beyond with her kindness and care.
