Marsha Lepor, RN – The Troy Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses –
September, 2010 – Troy Beaumont Hospital

At the end of my shift this morning, another nurse on my floor Marsha Lepor asked me for some Motrin to help with her back and shoulder ache. I figured it was from the usual wear and tear that happens following a typical 12 hour shift on 4 South, a busy Progressive Care Unit. She told me her shift was more trying than usual because she was off the floor for an MRI for one of her patients. That in itself is not unusual. What is remarkable is that the reason Marsha's back and shoulder ached was that she was bent over because she held the hand and comforted her confused 91 year old Alzheimer's patient throughout the hour long scan of the patient's hip and spine. She could have waited for day shift, gotten an order for anesthesia, waited for a family member to sign the consent and gotten her shift done without much ado. That would have put the MRI back by one or two days. However, Marsha brought her patient relief the quickest way possible, with the human touch, and that is what she brings to the bedside every day. I am fortunate to work with Marsha, because she shares willingly her clinical knowledge and practical experience in any situation that is asked of her. On a routine basis, Marsha is a trusted resource on our unit, and I want her to be noticed and nominated as a true DAISY we can all be proud of.
