Marteena John is deserving of this award. She works on Baltray unit in Sunhill Nursing Home, Co. Louth. She cares for my mum with such compassion and listens to her patiently. She explains things to us as a family and takes an active interest in us too as well as my mum. Of utmost importance to her is Mum's comfort. Mum had an unusual mark on her forehead and became very agitated. Marteena was able to calm Mum down in such a professional way, that Mum became relaxed and allowed Marteena to examine her. Marteena has such a compassionate and calm way of dealing with my mum on a daily basis. I feel she demonstrates real person-centered care. The care that she provides goes above and beyond, even when she is so busy. She always puts her residents first. We as a family feel a part of the unit when she is on duty.
