From pre-surgery to discharge, Ms. Carr went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and set my mind at ease.
Nursing is a profession built on compassion, kindness, dedication, and servant leadership. All of which are attributes of our April 2022 Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center DAISY Award winner, Mary Carr! Ms. Carr was nominated by a patient who expressed her appreciation and gratitude, stating, “Mary was very caring at a very scary time. I needed open heart surgery at the age of 70. From pre-surgery to discharge, Ms. Carr went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and set my mind at ease. Her compassion for what I was going through made everything easier.” Ms. Carr graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She began her career at Mercy Hospital’s Coronary Intensive Care Unit, where she found her passion for cardia nursing. With the closing of Mercy Hospital, she knew she wanted to continue her cardia nursing career. Ms. Carr stated, “I was fortunate to become a member of the Heart Hospital at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Here I joined a team of inspiring individuals that embrace nurse autonomy and decision making when it comes to caring for our patients.” Ms. Carr has been practicing bedside nursing for 41 years, and we are so grateful for her! Congratulations Mary!! We are so proud of you and all of the extraordinary care that you provide to our patients, families, and community every day!
