The night they took my mother off the ventilator Mary took over at 7 pm. My mom had been off the vent since the morning. She was doing ok until right before shift change when her BP began dropping and she began gurgling pretty bad. Mary immediately began working and doing everything in her power to ensure my mom got the treatment she needed. At approximately 4:45 am when we made the decision not to reinsert the vent, she was still working feverishly. Near the end of her shift, she came in and said a prayer with me and my brother. A sincere prayer, from the heart of a caring individual. She, in my humble opinion, went over and above the call of duty to help not only my mother but my family.
