1st Nomination: In addition to her compassionate and attentive bedside care, Mary has made a strong commitment that goes well above and beyond her usual duties, to an important patient safety priority in the PICU. Mary has been one of several PICU nurses who have shown a strong initiative to decreasing the rate of blood stream infections in the PICU. Mary has taken the initiative to revise the manner with which the research into the root cause of blood stream infections are shared with the PICU staff in the unit. She also co-leads the group in a high level analysis of how a new care process may impact our patients. Her enthusiasm and commitment is contagious and I am excited about the leadership she has provided to the whole unit.
2nd Nomination: Mary is skilled as a bedside PICU nurse. She is meticulous and shows a great deal of care for her patients and families. What makes Mary's work extraordinary is her passion for work with the BSI committee. She has been spearheading projects to understand complex system problems that relate to medication delivery and risk assessment. She is driving a project for failure mode analysis for medication bolusing off of the pump. She is also in charge of RCA analysis for blood stream infection work. This is graduate level work and not commonly in the scope of either nursing or medicine. Her contributions to system wide improvement in the PICU are "extraordinary!”
