I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude for the amazing care and attention Mary gave me on the 4 West surgical floor at Harrison. What began as a fairly straightforward operation, became complicated with my stay extending to two weeks. During this scary time for my family and me, the staff did a fine job of taking care of us. I want to say that while the nurses in general, follow the doctor's orders well, Mary does so much more. Patients notice her professionalism and she is so appreciated!
She asks questions and listens carefully to the response. She observes while she reads between the words, following up with questions, offering suggestions, and even contacting the doctors when she feels a change in orders might be helpful. Mary made me feel like there was someone really looking out for me. I felt secure and cared for, and I felt that my health and well-being mattered to her. It is the confidence that I felt when she was reviewing my chart because I knew she was carefully tracking things.
The encouragement that I felt when Mary would explain the improvements she was seeing gave me the feeling of having her in my corner. It was important with all the staff entering and leaving my room. She spent time and helped me interpret what the doctors were advising, and she recorded my questions, concerns and follow up items. She appeared happy to answer my call button.
Mary was generous with her absolutely infectious smile which goes a long was to help the healing process. It was both big and little things, actions and attitudes that made a huge difference.
