Mary really treats my mom as if it was her own family and you can tell how much emotional empathy she has for my mom to make sure she was as comfortable as possible.
My mother, 69 years young, came into for emergency GI surgery and ended up having another emergency second surgery 10 days post-first operation. My father and I have not left her side since she was admitted, but we have been exhausted and frightened for her fight to survive this complicated recovery path having CREST syndrome. Scleroderma, specifically, makes it difficult to heal with added scar tissue during recovery. On top of that, my mom contracted MRSA. Mary has not only been patient and kind, but treated my mom as if she were her own. Despite having plenty of other patients to tend to she knew my mom's case was a bit more complicated and Mary pitched herself right outside my mom's room and was there immediately when my mom needed her. Mary really treats my mom as if it was her own family and you can tell how much emotional empathy she has for my mom to make sure she was as comfortable as possible. It's been a challenge to time her antibiotics, pain medication, iron infusions, blood transfusions, etc... All through a single port since the other was infected. Her timing she never missed a beat as soon as that machine sounded she was right there making the switch. Mary's kindness, dedication and overall sense of humor kept my mom in good spirits for the time she has been here. My mom is currently still at Riverview, and we are hoping for a positive outcome to the story by the time the awards are announced.
