I had a pregnancy that was complicated by 3 overnight stays prior to my labor. I actually had Maryann as my nurse during one of the admissions and during my delivery. I am a difficult IV patient (took 6 times with the use of Ultrasound during one admission) and Maryann was aware. She was very compassionate to my concerns about getting poked that many times again and assured me that she would be able to get it done easily and she did. She got me in 1 poke which was a huge relief during the stress of one of my admissions to the hospital. When the day came for my baby to come, I was blessed with her as my nurse again. My labor was progressing quickly and she was able to get an IV started (1 poke again even with a new IV brand) between contractions. She was very attentive during my labor, showing me different ways to relax, helping me get in and out of the tub, and giving encouraging words the whole time. She also was very attentive to my husband as well! She was instructing him on how he could help and made him feel very included in the birthing experience. During my stay, she was only my nurse the first night, but on my last night, she was working and made a point to come and see me to see how I was doing and how the baby was doing as well. I can only hope that when the time comes for my next child that she will be working!
