Marybeth took her time to ensure everything is okay and that she would take great care of me. I felt safe with her in the room and began not to be so anxious.
Marybeth was the first nurse I saw upon arriving into my room. I could tell as soon as she spoke that she loved her job and her patients. Marybeth has such a soothing calming manner about her. I expressed to her that I was experiencing anxiety and felt as if I was going to panic. Marybeth took her time to ensure everything is okay and that she would take great care of me. I felt safe with her in the room and began not to be so anxious. She kept me talking to her to keep my mind off things and she would carry the conversation with me. I could tell she was such a beautiful soul with a passion for nursing.
The patient wrote this after finding out that Marybeth was selected for a DAISY Award:
Awww! Yay! I am so happy for her! She is so so so deserving of this! The care she gave me was amazing and very professional and I just felt safe with her, like I knew I was in great hands under her care!

When I think of the meaning of The DAISY Award, the words dedicated, compassionate, skilled, and extraordinary come to mind. When I think of someone deserving of this award I think of Marybeth Hettinger. I have been blessed to have worked with Marybeth for greater than thirty years and I have learned from the best. She has been orienting nurses and sharing her clinical expertise with many new team members. Her dedication and pride in her profession are proven by her forty-one years as a nurse for our organization. Marybeth's amazing leadership skills are seen daily, not only when she is in charge but they are exemplified by the staff that she supports. Marybeth treats every patient and their family as if they are her only one at that time. She listens intently and with compassion. She never rushes her patients and is always their advocate. I could keep writing wonderful attributes about Marybeth but I know she is thinking in her mind, "Stop this, I didn't do anything special." Well, Marybeth yes you do and yes you are very special!
