Marylon Ales, RN
She took the time to bring supplies from home to wash, detangle, and style a patient’s hair who had been admitted to the ICU for over a month. Not only does she provide excellent clinical care to her patients, but she also does the extra mile to meet patients’ needs in other ways that are often overlooked.

I have worked with Marylon in ICU at Baptist – North MS for over 20 years. She is one of the most helpful, knowledgeable, and compassionate nurses I have ever worked with. I can think of multiple examples of her going above and beyond. Just last week, during the beginning of one of our shifts, I had just gotten a new patient, making him my third patient for the night. The patient’s wife didn’t know how to get back to the ER parking lot, so Marylon walked the patient’s wife all the way down to the ER. Just about an hour later, one of the new residents didn’t know where the lab was located and instead of giving directions, she walked him down to the lab to show him how to get there. She is consistently one of the nurses who will jump in and help in an impending bad situation, such as a code. I have never once heard her complain about her assignments whether it be 3 critical COVID patients or a fresh post-op CABG. She is one of the “go-tos” for the newer nurses because she is so knowledgeable, experienced, and approachable. She has mentored, precepted, and trained countless nurses throughout her career. She has been a consistent employee during the COVID crisis which is becoming increasingly important as there are nurse shortages everywhere and she often volunteers to pick up extras shifts. She is a true blessing to our ICU. For these reasons, I feel that she is a DAISY Nurse.
