Matt Anderson, RN

This past week was my first ever having to be admitted to the hospital. To say I was scared and unsure of what to expect was an understatement. Working in healthcare myself, I never thought I would be on the other side of it. Matt was my day shift nurse & I cannot say enough good things about him. Each time he came into the room, he brought in a calming presence. He always took the time to explain everything to me and never once rushed out. Even with all of my silly questions, he answered them in a way I would understand. If he was ever stressed out, he never once showed it. You could tell he has a passion for his job and loves what he does. Toward the end of my stay, he knew I was ready to get back home and he really advocated for me. He took time out to keep reaching out to the doctor to ensure I could go home. My diet had to be changed in order for me to go home & he called down to the cafeteria after my food was delivered to get me new food so I could tolerate it to be sent home. He even took the time to write all of questions down on the whiteboard to ensure I didn't forget anything I wanted to ask the doctor. He advocated for me as if I was a part of his family. He never once treated me like a patient but more like a friend. When you hear about discharges it usually takes hours on hours before you leave. When Matt got the discharge orders, I was out in a matter of minutes. He took the time out of his busy schedule & all of the other patients he was dealing with to make sure I got out of there. You can tell Matt is passionate about his job & is in the career field he is supposed to be in. He made my first hospital stay way less stressful & for that, I am so thankful. ECU Health BFT is lucky to have a nurse like Matt. So full of passion & drive. I hope if I ever have to be admitted again, I have a nurse just like Matt!
