I knew I could trust Matt and that he was advocating for me and my needs regardless of who it might upset.
Matt has been my nurse for two days and has gone above and beyond to help me. Yesterday, my pain was not controlled and the doctors were being difficult about changing my pain medication orders. Matt was constantly checking on me and pushing for more help. When Matt left for the night, my pain increased and the night nurse basically said the doctors were not going to do anything. Matt came back this morning, and I was already crying from the pain. Within an hour of being on shift, Matt talked with a new hospitalist who would be taking over my care and explained the situation and was able to get me different medication to address the pain. He explained he would be in constant contact with the new hospitalist throughout the day and she would be around at some point. Without Matt’s help, I don’t know what would have happened, but my mental health was declining, and once Matt came in and assured me there was a plan and he was going to help get things under control, I was able to calm down. I knew I could trust Matt and that he was advocating for me and my needs regardless of who it might upset. I am so thankful he never makes me feel like a burden when I need something, and he always listens to what I am saying and doesn’t just shrug it off. Matt also discovered that my last CT showed a cyst on my ovary, which could be causing the pain. If more nurses were like Matt, patients would be happier, and the hospital would be a lot better!
