Dr. J nominated Maura, he describes her as being calm, reasonable, and always using good judgement. She is a true patient advocate and always smiles and shows understanding of not only the patient's situation, but also the physician's. He states that he always feels comfortable if she is taking care of his patients because she is so easy to work with. He jokingly referred to her as a "zookeeper" who can handle anything.

Maura recently was involved in a code blue. It was very unexpected and the family was in shock. Maura demonstrated an air of "calm and certainty", that gave the family reassurance and confidence that their loved one was in good hands during a very stressful time.
When the code team arrived, she provided all of the information to them that they needed. She also directed other staff members during the code.
After addressing the immediate medical needs of the patient, she took time to make sure pastoral care was available to the family. She offered food, drink, and a quiet place for the family to be.
After the patient was transferred to the ICU, she remained professional and carried on providing care to her other patients. I observed Maura, and she treated each patient as if they were her most important and only one, and did not reveal what had just happened, even though I am sure she was emotionally drained.
I feel that Maura was a great example of how to respond in a code situation.
