May consistently goes above and beyond to take care of both the patients and the staff. Recently she extended her compassion to an elderly man in need who she met in a grocery store parking lot. The man was lost and did not know how to get home. Using her nursing assessment skills, she realized that the elderly man had a bit of dementia. He was wearing a visitor badge from Meritus Medical Center which provided her his name. When she asked about visiting the hospital, he was able to tell her that his wife was a patient in the hospital and was headed home, but stopped at the grocery store first; however, once he was leaving, he became confused.
May immediately got on the phone and called the resource nurse in her unit; the resource nurse went to the patient's room and was able to explain the situation to the man's wife and daughter. Using May's cellphone, the daughter was able to talk with her father and made plans to come and pick him up. May stayed with the gentleman until his daughter arrived.
