Thank you, fellow nurse, for showing me love and compassion at one of my weakest moments.
As a nurse, you aren’t supposed to be the patient. You are to be the strong one who comforts the sick, not the one signing a consent for your breast biopsy. No book can teach you how to console an apprehensive patient, a patient having a test to see if the “suspicious” area on her mammogram is cancer. Megan made me feel like I was the most important person in the world when I underwent a Stereotactic Breast Biopsy. She laid her hand gently on my arm during the whole procedure. She spoke to me softly about what to expect during the 45-60 minutes of needing to lay very still. You have touched me, a stranger, and created a difference during a challenging start of my journey through cancer. Thank you, fellow nurse, for showing me love and compassion at one of my weakest moments. You aren’t given a choice about a diagnosis of cancer but you can choose where to seek treatment and Megan was a part of me choosing All Saints for my cancer care. Megan, your gentle reassurance during my first of many tests, procedures, and treatments, and being surrounded by family and friends is what will give me the strength to be a cancer warrior. Thank you.
